In addition to numerous movies coming out this year, the movie industry is also churning out sequels to beloved classics which are turning out to be bigger and better. The first quarter saw the success of Avengers: Infinity War followed by the success of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The recent sequel success at the box office was Incredibles 2 that recorded the highest weekend opening in the animation genre in India.
Here are a few more sequels that we cannot wait for!
1 - ANT-MAN AND THE WASP
Release Date: 13th July 2018
Marvel's ant-sized superhero makes his return this year, this time on a new mission fighting alongside the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly). Paul Rudd reprises his role as Ant-Man, with Peyton Reed back in the director's chair. Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne round out the cast.
2 - MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN!
Release Date: 20th July
Celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Mamma Mia! a sequel to the musical comedy is in the works. Several actors from the original will be returning, including Amanda Seyfried (Dear John) as Sophie, Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada) as Donna, and Pierce Bronan (GoldenEye) as Sam.
3 - MISSION IMPOSSIBLE- FALLOUT
Release date: 27th July
Mission Impossible- Fallout is the sixth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series. It stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris, Michelle Monaghan, and Alec Baldwin who all reprise their roles from previous films, with Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett joining the franchise.
4 - RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK IT RALPH 2
Release Date: 23rd November
Six years following the events of 2012's Wreck-It Ralph, the sequel sees Ralph (again voiced by John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) travel to the Internet through a Wi-Fi router newly installed in the arcade in an attempt to save Sugar Rush from being shut down. Taraji P. Henson, introduced as new character Yesss, joins the voice cast in the animated family film by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston.
4 - MARY POPPINS RETURNS
Release Date: 28th December
Emily Blunt makes her debut as the magical nanny in the follow-up to the 1964 original starring Julie Andrews. The sequel, set 25 years later, sees Blunt's Mary Poppins pay a visit to now-grown children Michael and Jane Banks to help them overcome a personal loss.
