Trump got a big shock during PM Modi's Japan visit. Japan rejected the deal worth billions with America. Trump's move now seems to be backfiring. Actually, PM Modi was given a grand welcome as soon as he reached Japan. But in the meantime, Japan gave a big shock to Trump who was harming India. This is not a small shock but is related to a deal worth Rs. 45 lakh 92 thousand 500 crores. The process of the mega investment agreement of $ 550 billion was suddenly stopped. Actually, Japan's business advisor Ryosei was going to America to finalize this deal but he cancelled this visit at the last minute.
It is worth noting that he has cancelled this visit in the middle of PM Modi's arrival in Japan. US President Trump has increased import tariffs on many countries under his America First policy. This includes Japan as well. A general tariff of 25 percent was earlier imposed on Japan. Which was particularly affecting major export sectors like automobiles and auto parts. In July 2025, Japan and the US agreed on a trade deal in which Japan's import tariff was promised to be reduced from 25 percent to 15 percent. In return, Japan proposed an investment package of $550 billion in the US.
Japan says that this investment will be made only if it benefits Japan's interests. There is a difference of opinion between the two sides. Japan wants that both countries should benefit equally from the investment. But Trump does not want this at all and he only sees his own benefit. Japanese rice is also a big reason for the 550 billion dollar deal being stalled. The process of agreement between Japan and America was going on since May. Now the issue is that Donald Trump, as always, wants investment on his terms. He had written on his social media account that Japan has opened its agriculture sector for America.
The matter was directly related to rice. Japanese farmers never want American rice to come to Japanese markets. There have been protests against this earlier as well. American rice has been opposed here for decades. They feel that cheap rice will destroy the farmers' market. Japanese people eat sticky rice and they consider it nutritious.
