CENTRAL RAILWAY LOADS 20.12 MILLION TONNE FREIGHT THROUGH 3.83 LAKH WAGONS DURING 150 DAYS OF LOCKDOWN AND UNLOCK PERIOD

~ Over 1.45 lakh wagons of coal loaded to ensure uninterrupted power supply ~


In order to ensure the timely delivery of freight vital for the energy & infrastructure sector, Railways has maintained its goods trains fully functional in spite of the COVID19 lockdown and unlock. To meet the needs of the industry, Central Railway transported 20.13 million tonnes of freight successfully in 150 days from 23rd March 2020 to 19th August 2020.


In terms of wagon loads it turns out 3,83,189 wagons i.e. in the 150 days from 23.3.2020 to 19.8.2020, Central Railway loaded 8,025 goods trains carrying coal, food grains, sugar, petroleum products, fertilizers, containers, iron and steel, cement, onions and other miscellaneous goods. During this period on an average 2,558 wagons of freight have been loaded daily.


Central Railway loads 1,45,315 wagons of coal to various power plants to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity. 4,248 wagons of food grains and sugar; 17,536 wagons of fertilizers and 5,305 wagons of onions for the benefit of farmers; 37,840 wagons of petroleum products; 9,909 wagons of iron and steel; 25,112 wagons of cement, 1,18,826 container wagons and about 19,098 wagons of de-oiled cake and miscellaneous goods were also loaded.


Railway staff are working at various good sheds, stations and control offices on a 24x7 basis to ensure that the supply of freight does not get affected. Loco pilots, guards are efficiently running the trains.


Key maintenance staff of track, signalling, overhead equipment, locomotives, coaches and wagons are maintaining the infrastructure in good fettle to ensure smooth running of trains. They are the #corona warriors at field level keeping the supply chain intact.
