CENTRAL RAILWAY’S BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UNITS (BDU) ON FAST TRACK


Central Railway transported Tata’s cars to Bangladesh, Mahindra’s automobiles to Kharagpur, Tractors to Firozpur, moved Sugar from Baramati to Tripura and Karad to Tirunelveli. Apart from the above, most popular amongst Kisan for transporting perishable vegetables and fruits, the Kisan Rail, Central Railway also started operations of Roll on –Roll off (RoRo) traffic from Bale (Solapur). All this new business was possible due to intensive marketing of the Business Development Unit set-up across all divisions of Central Railway.


Central Railway has set-up Business Development Units at Zonal & Divisional level recently. These Business Development Units aggressively market new proposals and flexible schemes with local farmers, loaders, APMC and individuals and aggregate their demands. The Business Development Unit is also taking into consideration new proposals, schemes and suggestions submitted by the different freight aggregators, new customers, trade bodies and logistics companies. These initiatives by the BDUs yielded many new traffic and bridged a bond with trade and industry for new business.


Mumbai Division through its BDU developed scope for a rake of oil loading Bharat Petroleum from Rasayani daily, possible RO-RO service from Kalamboli yard to Calicut, trying to increase the traffic of JSW steel loading from Vasind, developing Bhiwandi station for goods and parcel cargo express. Pune Division accomplished a rake loading of automobile from Chinchwad Goods shed to Ernakulam after almost a gap of 9 years, transported 75 cars for Tata motors from Pune to Bangladesh, first time loaded Sugar rake from Karad to Tirunelveli and Villupuram in Tamil Nadu, sugar also transported from Baramati to Tripura, Bhusaval division started transporting automobiles of Mahindra Logistics Ltd from Nashik to Kalaikunda, Kharagpur, a mini rake of cement to new destination Ganj Basoda for Orient Cement, transported wheat from Khandwa to Aurangabad for Food Corporation of India. Nagpur division through its BDU increased automobile loading of Mahindra & Mahindra from Butibori, Fly-ash loading from Sarni, Chandrapur loading of Dolomite from Wani, created a prospect of loading cement for Reliance Cement company ltd., and new traffic of wheat was created at Betul Goods shed and 25 tractors were loaded from Ajni Goods shed to Phillaur, Firozpur, Punjab. BDU of Solapur division started RO-RO traffic from Bale to Nelmangala (Bengaluru), starting POL loading from Pakni, for the first-time fertilizer mini rake loaded from Daund to Kanthan Jn.


The Industry is more interested & willing for Rail Transportation of Goods and Commodities due to flexible schemes, low tariff, faster movement, safe and secure transportation and more importantly environment friendly.
