On the occasion of World Ocean Day, Zee TV actors like Pooja Banerjee from Kumkum Bhagya, Sanjay Gagnani from Kundali Bhagya, Reem Shaikh and Vaidika Senjaliya from Tujhse Hai Raabta, Sapna Thakur from Kyun Rishton Mein Katti Batti and Adhvik Mahajan from Teri Meri Ikk Jindri share some of their thoughts on the same.
Pooja Banerjee who plays the role of Rhea in Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya revealed, "Oceans are really important not just for us, but for the environment as well. I've been swimming in the ocean since I was in 4th grade and kept doing it on a regular basis until the 9th grade. In fact, I started once again in 2012 for a competition and while I swam without practice and it was a fantastic experience, I am sure others would find it difficult. This is because of the amount of rubbish I encountered in the ocean as well as the oil in it. My face was covered in oil when I swam and I have to say, it was disgusting. Just imagine, if I was in the water for a few hours and I felt it disgusting, then what would the marine animals be going through. I remember, whenever we used to go for swims, we used to be stationed in the ocean at night and early in the morning, we used to hit the water and after 5 to 6 hours of swimming, each one of us would return with bags of garbage. We would dispose of the waste properly on land and that way I felt like I was making a difference. We have seen and heard about how oceanic pollution has led to a decline in aquatic life, but there I was experiencing it and I am sure this, in turn, will come to affect us as well in due course of time. While the ocean has a good way of removing some of the waste, a lot of it stays back and we need to do something about it. I strongly believe that we should start from a young age and get kids to go on expeditions to the sea once and be made aware of the importance of oceans and how to help save them. By imparting this knowledge to them, not only will they not litter in the sea, but they will educate their family and friends also to not litter. We can also educate the fisherman and have stricter guidelines for waste disposal and deep-sea mining to save such oceanic pollution from occurring, where you will find a lot of our water bodies being polluted. I hope everyone understands this and we can save our oceans as well as the marine ecology. Happy World Ocean Day."
Sanjay Gagnani who plays Prithvi, the negative lead in Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya said, “I've always been too close to the oceans and it pains me to say on this World Ocean Day, that we as human beings have failed our mother Nature in ways, we can't even fathom. One of nature's most beautiful creations, oceans rarely get the acknowledgement they deserve, and we barely let them live in peace. It's high time we start saving the oceans and the lives that reside within them. I've had the privilege of getting to travel a lot and that has made me witness some of the most beautiful oceans in the world. I think that's why I connect more to it because the beauty of it is spectacular. I've been doing my bit ever since I read about the oceans getting polluted because of reasons known. Whenever I visit the beach, it doesn't matter who, if I see someone throwing something on the beach, I make sure to tell them to put it on a dustbin since it affects the living bodies in the sea. Very little is required to make a change, and if we don't start by doing it ourselves, nobody will.”
Sapna Thakur who plays the role of Samaira in Zee TV’s Kyun Rishton Mein Katti Batti said, “I am extremely fond of swimming and to do that in the ocean is the most blissful feeling. I get a very calm and positive vibe each time I enter the water and step on the ocean bed, and I would never want this feeling to ever end. But sadly, with the amount of water pollution that we have been causing over the years, this feeling will surely not last. While many of us enjoy spending our spare time on the beach, we should always be careful about the things they carry with them and how they dispose of them. It is every person’s duty to keep the sea clean and a few simple lifestyle changes can really help in restoring our oceans for future generations. Always demand plastic- free alternatives when purchasing and avoid using jewellery that is made out of coral or sea turtle shells. These can really harm marine life. Let's avoid contributing to the destruction of our oceans and leave nothing but footprints behind -- Wishing everyone a Happy World Ocean Day!”
Reem Shaikh who plays the role of Kalyani in Zee TV's Tujhse Hai Raabta said, "Oceans have always been my favourite for some reason. I am a beach baby. I love how the waves always manage to calm my nerves even when they are mostly wild and
sometimes, I am just amused by the wonders of nature. I love getting lost looking at the ocean and specially during the sunset time. Most of us tend to take mother nature’s this gift for granted and pollute the sea in not one but multiple ways. I believe, it is the responsibility of each one of us to keep the ocean clean and ensure we don’t harm marine life in any manner. In fact, nearly two years back I switched to reef-safe sunscreens as soon as I found out that our normal sunscreens if washed away by the seawater, can harm the corals & fishes. This was my first step and now I encourage everyone to do something to preserve the ocean water and its marine life, no matter how big or small it may be."
Vaidika Senjaliya who plays the role of Uttara in Zee TV’s Tujhse Hai Raabta, “As soon as we talk about oceans, it reminds me of my childhood. My family owns a farmhouse in Diu, Gujarat and me and my brother have spent most of our summer
vacations there, swimming in the seawater. It gives me this vacation vibe and I love being around the sea. We have always been very careful to not litter around or throw anything in the ocean or on the beach. We used to carry an extra bag to throw garbage and then dispose of it at the right place. We should make sure we don’t use plastic or at least dispose of it in the right way and dump it at the right place, plastic harms the environment majorly. So, I believe that we should really be careful about all these things. Post the pandemic if I get a chance, I would really like to volunteer for a beach cleaning activity.”
