IN 100 DAYS, CR TRANSPORTS 13.39 MILLION TONNE FREIGHT THROUGH 2.54 LAKH WAGONS DURING LOCKDOWN AND


In total from 23rd March 2020 to 30th June 2020 CR ran 5,306 goods trains


On an average daily 2,543 wagons of freight loaded


Over 1 lakh wagons of coal loaded to ensure uninterrupted power supply


In order to ensure the timely delivery of freight vital for the energy & infrastructure sector, Railways has maintained its goods trains fully functional in spite of the COVID19 lockdown and unlock. In 100 days, Central Railway transported 13.39 million tonnes of freight successfully in meeting the needs of the industry.


In terms of wagon loads it turns out 2,54,335 wagons i.e. in the 100 days from 23.3.2020 to 30.6.2020, Central Railway ran 5,306 goods trains carrying coal, food grains, sugar, petroleum products, fertilizers, containers, iron and steel, cement, onions and other miscellaneous goods. During this period on an average 2,543 wagons of freight have been loaded daily.


Central Railway alone carried 1,00,371 wagons of coal to various power plants to ensure un-interrupted supply of electricity. Also carried 3,479 wagons of food grains and sugar; 9,980 wagons of fertilizers and 2,689 wagons of onions for the benefit of farmers; 25,821 wagons of petroleum products; 5,622 wagons of iron and steel; 15,460 wagons of cement, 79,643 container wagons and about 11,270 wagons of de-oiled cake and miscellaneous goods.


Railway staff are working at various good sheds, stations and control offices on a 24x7 basis to ensure that the supply of freight do not get affected. Loco pilots, guards are efficiently running the trains. Key maintenance staff of track, signalling, overhead equipment, locomotives, coaches and wagons are maintaining the infrastructure in good fettle to ensure smooth running of trains. They are the #corona warriors at field level keeping the supply chain intact.
